Our Approach

Our Approach

Picture
"The role of the consultant is to improve the client's condition." Alan Weiss, Author of The Consultant's Bible (2011)

The three-step engagement involves:
  • An initial one-day, $709 +HST money-back guaranteed review and written report.
The initial consultation involves a review of your current documentation, a face-to-face meeting to discuss the opportunity, goals and issues and some initial research. The outcome of this process is a 2-page report outlining the major strategic, technical, commercial, financial, operational and execution(al) issues, a SWOT analysis, a list of next steps and recommendations, and a list of references. In the majority of cases this work will be competed in a single day.

The cost of this consultation is notionally set at $800 ($709 +HST) however it comes with a guarantee: It is up to you to set the value of the work from $0-$800. This guarantee is designed to ensure that we can add value to your efforts, work well together and establish a degree of comfort and trust.

  • A full, negotiated engagement including scope document, interim meetings and final report.
The next step involves negotiating a full-fledged engagement. The proposal or scope document which guides the work will include: the situation, objectives, measures of success, value accruing from meeting the objectives, methodology and options, timing, joint accountabilities, terms and conditions and acceptance. A series of update meetings will be scheduled during the engagement and a final report will be produced for final sign-off.

The fee for these engagements will be based on a fixed fee, as opposed to one calculated on a hourly basis. The advantage of a fixed fee is that the full cost is known upfront, as is the return on investment. In addition, it allows flexibility, encourages efficiency, rewards speed and expertise, and avoids conflicts over billing extra hours. All minor expenses are also included. Travel and other major expenses that are deemed necessary will be approved and paid for by the client.

  • A no-cost one-day, post-engagement review and written report at 6 or 12 months post-engagement.
A final, follow-up review meeting will be scheduled either 6 or 12 months after completion of the project, depending on the timing of the expected outcomes. The purpose of this review is to ensure things are on track and suggest any corrective actions that may be necessary or beneficial.

There is no additional cost for this review.
